You could also just simply play the fast passages with your fingers on the side of the string instead of on top of the string as you should be doing anyway.
Ah yes, letting your exercises dictate when vibrato is played and not let it be a concious decision. NEXT!
Could you make another video explaining the "debate", rather than only saying there is one, which will at least separate you from so many videos with click-bait titles? Expounding upon the lead-up to the portion, I think, would definitely allow room for an examination of the so-called "merits" of each of options which could be preferred; and why.
What is his name? Just amazing 👏
Other techniques are used to play more.. progressive songs. But a flat bow does sound lovely. Thank you for teaching me!
I play bass but I’m pretty sure this could translate over, personally I’d want the weight of my arm to be directed into the bridge, not the instrument, having the hair towards the bridge allows for more weight to be directed to the bridge.
posting this is certainly one way to start the debate of flat hair vs parallel to floor
Thank you for share this with the video .
I think this is a personal perspective rather than a reliable rule. I'm doubtful a class of beginner cellists will track straighter either way.
Interesting take, but playing with flat hair doesn’t guarantee a straight bow in my experience. There are other factors at play.
First!!🎶
what is this concerto's name?
Schumann cello concerto
3rd movement
Stop teaching other people your limits.
Convincing argument and I have no rebuttal. This man is more qualified than I (IMO) and.. I can’t think of a counter argument.
Amazing.and you still sound shite.
Yeah well it's kind of important.
Trash.
He sounds exactly like jshlatt
Glad you addressed. Thumb position takes lots of practice.
These brief cello technique lessons are invaluable. Thank you.
Who is this man? Very nice Cellist ❤
Is there an advantage to bowing on the fingerboard?
Exaggerated glissandi- such as in old recordings of Saint-Saens The Swan are my pet hate. But I especially agree that they should be purged from the Baroque and Classical repertoire. As for vibrato, I don't think cello teachers spend enough time on the variety of the technique.Thank you for this post. I'd love more please.
Look how small the movement is when done fast. That's very important to mention.
Larry Lesser is such a great teacher <3
That C# stopped my heart. Painfully beautiful 😢
Amazing
My fourth finger has the strongest vibrato but consequently my pinky is permanently bent
At first I thought "fourth finger" was in reference to the ring finger. Which made sense to me because it's comparatively lacking in individual dexterity. But then I watched your demonstration and learned 1) that's not the finger we're talking about and 2) the problem finger isn't the problem finger. During vibrato, the fretting finger's main job is just to be there. The ring finger can be there. That's about all it can do. Vibrato is driven by the rest of the hand. So the actual fourth finger (pinky)'s vibrato issue isn't with that finger itself, is it?
🎻🤌
I’m so tired of hearing my forth finger is lazy. My girlfriend is the worst
Mischa Maisky is the best cellist alive today
Its very necessary to vibrate like a vibrator
dope.
First!!!! (insert cello emoji here)
Surely it’s just opinion? We have no recordings of Bachs original performances. How do we know what he intended ?
It’s very similar in guitar. I was a professional studio guitarist by age 19, but at 17 was teaching 32 students per week. And my vibrato was good with every finger. And just like he said, when I attacked the pinky, it then became automatic for my pinky to do its rapid wiggle. Then it became a matter of being conscious that when playing something off a radio hit, not every note had vibrato. But a tiny bit just makes the notes more satisfying.
why is she playing with so much portato?
Yes Bach is precise and mathematical and should not be played in a romantic way.
Wait until this guy listens to neoclassical metal guitarists 🎸
I agree! Bach and Beethoven sound better without glissandos. It's very hard to make it in life as a musician without being crazy in some aspect.
So how do you make your fingers round or flat? Do you just carve them with a knife?
Dude
I love the cello!
your pinky vibrato is still weak.....
🤔 somehow this is not working
who is Bach?
The devil is in the intonation.
So you practiced the thing you weren’t good at? Brilliant!! 😝 Just kidding around. It’s a great lesson.
Oh shut up already
